A round-up of book stores populating the downtown.

Mondragon • 91 Albert St., 946-5241
It’s all about the likes of Chomsky, Klein, and any number of radical-ologies at Winnipeg’s premier political bookshop, whose adjoining café happens to be one of the best vegan eateries the city has to offer. Don’t leave without your latest issue of Adbusters.

Bison Books • 265 Kennedy St., 947-5931
Classical music on the radio and an excellent collection of tomes on art and architecture distinguish this well-stocked used bookstore.

Book Fair • 340 Portage Ave., 944-1630
Another good used bookstore with a respectable selection, this one also has a good supply of comic book back issues and sometimes ut of print graphic novels. Check out the display case of rare, high-priced issues in the back; Incredible Hulk #181, which featured the first appearance of Wolverine, once had (and perhaps still does?) a place here.

Coles – The Book People • Cityplace, 942-8952
This subsidiary chain of Chapters/Indigo still maintains a presence downtown, in what is perhaps the area’s most unjustly overlooked shopping centre. It boasts the city core’s best selection of the latest bestsellers, plus of course a wider inventory of publications under a variety of categories.
