![]() For the fourth time artists from Winnipeg and around North America have put their skills down by painting up vinyl records for a Graffiti Gallery exhibit.
12 Inch 4 Record Vinyl Art Show features roughly 200 painted records done in a huge range in styles. From bright graffiti artwork to somber realism and creepy characters, the records are numerous and line the walls of the Graffiti Gallery’s huge, open-concept, multi-level warehouse space.
On until Nov. 7, the exhibit is part of the gallery’s last few shows of the year. 2008 has been phenomenal for the street-level gallery, which is housed in a Point Douglas warehouse on Higgins Avenue. The gallery celebrated its tenth anniversary by bringing in one of the grandfathers of graffiti, Erni Vales, from New York City. Vales and a number of local artists collaborated on massive murals covering the gallery’s fifty-feet tall walls. In classic Graffiti Gallery style, they’ll be going back to their roots for second last show of the year by featuring an exhibit of entirely local art. WalArt starts on Nov. 15 with a huge, rockin’ opening reception featuring live performances by Hot Rocks DJs Rob Vilar and Franz, as well Philly, Daz and B.ZWax. Gallery director Stephen Wilson promises the gallery will be completely transformed. The show will run until Dec. 10 with about 20 featured artists. This all-local art will be available to purchase. Don’t be afraid to loosen your purse strings and take home a one-of-a-kind piece. Don’t forget that local art also makes good presents too. |
