Winnipeg has been selected as one of four Canadian cities to host a
game as part of the Canada/Russia Super Series, a one-time, eight-game
series featuring the best under-20 players from Canada and Russia which
will run from August 27-September 9.
Canada and Russia will face each other at the MTS Centre on Tuesday,
September 4th. They will also play games in Saskatoon, Red Deer, and
Vancouver. Prior to the four-game series in Canada, the two sides will
have completed a four-game set in Russia with two games in Ufa and two
games in Omsk each.
Team Canada’s roster will consist of many junior stars who will make up
Canada’s Under-20 National Team for the ensuing World Junior in the
Czech Republic in December. Players such as phenom John Tavares from
the OHL’s Oshawa Generals, as well as the likes of Angelo Esposito, and
Kyle Turris are anticipated to make up Canada's roster for this series.
The team will be coached by Brent Sutter who has coached Canada’s
junior Under-20 team to multiple World Junior Gold Medals
championships.
