Info:     WINNIPEG, Man.—Acrylic and water color paintings by Winnipeg artists Paul Toews and Lily Lim will be exhibited at the Garry Street Gallery beginning Wednesday, May 28. The collection, “Reflections of a Prairie Province,” highlights Manitoba’s beauty and Winnipeg’s beautiful parks and surrounding scenery. The exhibition will run through June 20.

The Garry Street Gallery is located at 57-81 Garry St. in Fort Garry Place Mall. An opening reception will take place Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“People will see local landmarks and out-of-the-way places captured from a fresh perspective,” said gallery owner Val Romanow. “Lockport Island, Assiniboine Park, Oak Hammock Marsh, the Red River, Whiteshell Lake and many other landmark locations are represented.”

Paul Toews earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and CIM business designation at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. His career has included positions as advertising manager and designer/illustrator with national corporations. His commercial art career has expanded increasingly into fine art since 2003.

Toews produces commissioned work for several private collectors in Manitoba. His exhibitions have included back-to-back, two-person shows at the St. Boniface Cultural Center, Gallerie Fore-International Inn, and group exhibitions with Gallery 21, the Lion and Rose Gallery and the Vault Gallery.

Winnipeg artist Lily Lim studied advertising at the Ontario College of Art and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. Subsequently, she pursued graduate studies in painting, sculpture and fabric arts at the Institution of Fine Arts, San Miguel del Allende, Mexico.

Lim’s varied career has included position as an art educator and designer/illustrator in the advertising sector. She exhibits in Singapore and Winnipeg and produces commissioned work in all media for private collectors in Mexico, Australia, Singapore and Canada. Her chief patron is the well-known Southeast Asian architect Leon Huatong.
